also known as: Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, Choriogonadotropin alfa, Pregnyl, Novarel
Half-life: ~36 hours
HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is a glycoprotein hormone produced during pregnancy. In men, it mimics LH (luteinizing hormone) and directly stimulates Leydig cells in the testes to produce testosterone, maintaining testicular function, size, and fertility during TRT or steroid cycles.
Mechanism of Action
Binds LH/HCG receptors (LHCGR) directly on Leydig cells in the testes, bypassing the pituitary and hypothalamus. This directly stimulates testosterone biosynthesis and maintains intratesticular testosterone levels required for spermatogenesis.
HCG stimulates the testes directly (LH mimicry); Gonadorelin stimulates the pituitary — two levels of HPG axis support for comprehensive function.
Use HCG during cycle to maintain testicular function; Enclomiphene post-cycle to restart the HPG axis.
Both aim to maintain testicular function; HCG acts directly on testes, Gonadorelin acts on pituitary — can complement but is redundant in many cases.
Use HCG to maintain testicular function during cycle; transition to Enclomiphene for PCT to restart natural HPG axis function.
