Snap-8
also known as: Acetyl octapeptide-3, SNAP-8, Leuphasyl
Half-life: Topical application; penetration-dependent
About
Snap-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3) is a topical cosmetic peptide that reduces the appearance of expression lines (wrinkles caused by facial muscle contractions). It is often described as a topical alternative to Botox, working through a similar but milder mechanism by reducing the signaling at the neuromuscular junction.
Mechanism of Action
Competes with SNAP-25 protein at the SNARE complex in neuromuscular junctions, partially inhibiting acetylcholine vesicle release and reducing the intensity of muscle contractions that cause expression lines (crow's feet, forehead lines, frown lines).
Primary Benefits
- Reduction of expression lines and dynamic wrinkles
- Milder alternative to Botox
- Non-invasive topical application
- Complements dermal filler and collagen-stimulating peptides
- Safe for long-term use
Side Effects & Considerations
- Mild tingling after application in some users
- Very rare: skin sensitivity
