also known as: OT, Love hormone, Bonding hormone, Pitocin
Half-life: ~3–5 minutes in blood (but CNS effects last 1–2 hours)
Oxytocin is a nonapeptide produced in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary. Known as the "love hormone" or "bonding hormone," it plays central roles in social bonding, trust, sexual activity, childbirth, lactation, and emotional regulation. Intranasal and injectable forms are used for mood, social, sexual, and anti-aging applications.
Mechanism of Action
Binds oxytocin receptors (OTR) throughout the brain (amygdala, hypothalamus, nucleus accumbens) and peripheral tissues. Modulates HPA stress axis, reduces cortisol, and activates reward pathways. Promotes prosocial behavior, trust, and pair bonding.
None listed.
Use Oxytocin for daytime social enhancement, DSIP for sleep quality at night.
