also known as: BI 456906, GLP-1/GcgR dual agonist
Half-life: ~7 days
Survodutide is a once-weekly dual GLP-1/glucagon receptor co-agonist developed by Boehringer Ingelheim and Zealand Pharma. Phase 2 data shows significant weight loss of ~19% and additional benefit in NASH/MASH liver disease. Phase 3 trials ongoing.
Mechanism of Action
GLP-1R agonism suppresses appetite and delays gastric emptying; GcgR agonism increases energy expenditure, promotes hepatic fat oxidation, and stimulates gluconeogenesis suppression — together producing superior weight loss to GLP-1 alone with added liver benefits.
Counteracts muscle loss risk during weight loss.
Overlapping GLP-1 agonism — do not combine incretin therapies.
Overlapping GLP-1/glucagon — do not combine.
Same receptor targets as Survodutide — do not combine.
GH peptides preserve lean mass during aggressive weight loss.
Storage
Refrigerate at 2–8°C (36–46°F).
