also known as: Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide, PHM-27 related peptide
Half-life: ~1–2 minutes in plasma (very short)
VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide) is a 28-amino acid neuropeptide and hormone found throughout the nervous system, gut, and immune system. It is a potent vasodilator, anti-inflammatory agent, and neuroprotectant with applications in MCAS (mast cell activation), chronic inflammatory illness, pulmonary hypertension, and gut health.
Mechanism of Action
Binds VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors, activating adenylyl cyclase to raise cAMP. This produces vasodilation, bronchodilation, inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-12), promotion of regulatory T-cells, and neuroprotection.
Abad et al. and Gonzalez-Rey et al. published extensive VIP anti-inflammatory data. Used in Shoemaker CIRS protocol. Clinical trials ongoing for pulmonary arterial hypertension.
KPV and VIP both exert gut anti-inflammatory effects; KPV through MC receptors, VIP through VPAC receptors — synergistic for IBD/gut health.
BPC-157 drives tissue healing; VIP reduces the inflammatory environment that impedes healing.
TA1 drives T-cell immunity; VIP promotes regulatory T-cells to prevent immune excess — balanced immune stack.
