also known as: GSH, Gamma-glutamylcysteinylglycine, Reduced glutathione
Half-life: Short plasma half-life; intracellular GSH turns over in hours
L-Glutathione (GSH) is the master antioxidant of the human body — a tripeptide (Glu-Cys-Gly) that is the primary intracellular antioxidant and detoxification molecule. Supplemental glutathione has been studied for skin brightening, immune support, liver protection, and neurodegenerative disease. Injectable forms bypass the poor oral bioavailability.
Mechanism of Action
Directly quenches reactive oxygen species (ROS), regenerates vitamins C and E, conjugates with toxins for liver excretion (Phase II detox), and maintains redox balance in all cells. Reduces melanin production at high doses (skin lightening).
NAD+ supports the glutathione recycling enzyme GSSG reductase — they enhance each other's antioxidant capacity.
GHK-Cu activates antioxidant gene networks; glutathione is the direct antioxidant molecule — complementary antioxidant approach.
KPV reduces gut inflammation; glutathione reduces oxidative damage in the gut — complementary gut protection.
Epithalon upregulates antioxidant enzymes; glutathione is the substrate for many antioxidant reactions — synergistic longevity protocol.
Same compound — L-Glutathione and Glutathione are the same molecule.
